Hollywood Boulevard will be closed from Highland Avenue to Orange Drive this week as workers prepare for Sunday’s Academy Awards in the Kodak Theatre. It’s a minor annoyance for those of us who live in the neighborhood, but it is exciting to have the Oscars happening right next door. As for me, I’ve only seen four of the ten nominated films for Best Picture so I have a bit of catching up to do! Of course, for us vintage fashionistas, there’s also plenty of fun to be had on the red carpet, checking to see how many of this year’s actresses will don a glam gown from yesteryear.
Of course, for every person you see on that red carpet, there are dozens attending parties and balls all over the city. And today’s VPOD features a fantabulous vintage cocktail dress by Sarmi that is ready to hit the town. Made of pale tangerine organza, the sexy bodice and feminine bows ensure a place on your own personal best-dressed list.
It’s a five-star find for a vintage fashionista!
Available at 1stDibs.com.

About a month from today, athletes from the around the world will converge in Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Men and women will speed on skeletons, skis, bobsleds, and skates. They’ll curl and shoot and launch their bodies off ski jumps at almost 60 mph. And while these games will be green with the Vancouver Olympic Committee’s efforts at sustainability, all that ice and cold and snow turns my thoughts to blue.
Icy blue and cream, to be exact, like in today’s VPOD. It’s one of my favorite color combos for winter and this vintage Sarmi gown uses it with perfection. The touch of sparkle and shine, the snowflake-evoking motif of the fabric, the unexpected diagonal hem—I’d say this is one cocktail ensemble that deserves a gold medal for style.
It’s a lovely lady-like find for a vintage fashionista!
Available at Rare Vintage.

Ooh-la-la!
There is something so chic and elegant about feathers in fashion and they are definitely having their moment. But one has to wonder why they are not considered animal cruelty the way fur is.
While most feathers used in fashion do come from animals that are by-products of the meat industry, the animal rights group, PETA, reports that there’s no kind way to obtain these feathers and most birds have them painfully removed while still alive.
So, if you insist in indulging your fashion whim and choose to wear feathers, please choose vintage. Today’s VPOD, for instance, is a beautiful 1960s cocktail dress by Sarmi with an abundance of black-and-white feathers. And choosing this feathered vintage dress over a new one produced this season will keep at least one more animal from being harmed.
And that makes this a beautiful but more eco-chic choice for a vintage fashionista!
Available at Vintage Martini.
