VPOD: Aim for Amey

Fashion retailers condition shoppers to buy according to the retailers’ schedules. I mean, ever try to find a winter coat in the middle of February? Good luck! There may be a blizzard raging outside the door, but the few remaining winter coats are relegated to that mish-mash of items on the clearance rack while the sales floor is displaying all the new spring goods.

We’re vintage shoppers though. We know you can’t buy seasonally. Nope, you have to grab it when you see it! We’re always on the lookout for that perfect winter coat regardless of the month. And if it shows up on say…May 9, well, knowing we might not wear it for six more months won’t stop us from snatching it up in a flash.

Let’s face it, a 1960s three-piece wool outfit like today’s VPOD by Ronald Amey doesn’t show its face every day. And this baby’s a triple threat: a sleeveless black dress with belt, a red windowpane coat with full skirt and belt, and a playful scarf. Mix and match to your heart’s content!

It’s a wonderful off-season find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Vintage Martini.

P.S. I’ll be traveling Monday so the Zuburbia VPOD will return Tuesday, May 13.

VPOD: Absolute Luksus/Amey

Tzaims Luksus is known for his imaginative and original use of color in woven and printed fabrics that he produced for American fashion designers in the 60s and 70s.

This Burke-Amey 1970s belted A-line coat is stunning with its vibrant but dark undulating lines with lighter open areas of extraordinarily bizarre floral motifs and contrasting bold blue trim. The fabric Ronald Amey chose for this coat was a Tzaims Luksus warp-printed jacquard designed and produced by Tzaims Luksus, who often worked two to three years on
the design, construction and presentation of his fabrics before offering them to any fashion designer. Per correspondence with Tzaims Luksus, the fabric on this coat was chosen by Ronald Amey from the Tzaims Luksus c. 1970 fabric collection Tzaims manufactured in Como, Italy and also selected by Yves St. Laurent in Paris and James Galanos in California.

It’s a rare and fabulous find for a vintage collector!

(Note that per the Tzaims Luksus Archive Collection Foundation Library, for positive proof that a garment is the fabric and print of Tzaims Luksus, go to Tzaims Luksus and submit information to receive a certificate of authenticity.  Until such details are reviewed, identification of whether you have a Tzaims Luksus print or woven fabric in a vintage designer garment cannot be made.)

VPOD : Aim for Amey

When I was in high school and trying to decide what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, I spent a few weeks dreaming of becoming a textile designer. I’ve always loved amazing fabrics, much like the designer of today’s VPOD.

From 1960 to 1970, Ronald Amey and his partner Joseph Burke designed wonderful evening clothes with prices ranging from $500 up into the thousands of dollars. Ronald Amey was particularly known for his use of color and fabric, and often collaborated with the textile designer, Tzaims Luksis.

This colorful dress features flowing chiffon over silk taffeta and has beautiful crystal closures on the cuffs. The print is fun, bright and a bit bohemian.

It’s a sassy find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at eBay.
