VPOD: A Vintage 1900s Cocktail dress is Sheer Madness

The volatility in our financial markets presents huge opportunities for the risk-takers of the world. But me? I won’t even ride roller-coasters yet alone join the sheer madness of this crazy game. So what’s a girl to do with a little extra cash (like the $600 stimulus check that the IRS still owes me)?

Well, I say take 10% of the top and write a check to your favorite charity, then invest the rest into a fantastic high-quality piece of vintage clothing. After all, you don’t have to buy Worth or Fortuny gowns to call yourself a collector. There are plenty of wearable pieces that can hold their value over time and that you won’t need a bank loan to acquire.

Take today’s VPOD for example. This sheer sequined tulle overdress dates from about 1910 and would look smashing over a black slip. After wearing, you could just tuck it away in acid-free tissue paper and an archival box–sort of like the way you hide a certificate of deposit for a rainy day.

It’s a valuable find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Vintage Textile.
