I watched Betty White on The Tonight Show a few days ago and marveled once again at her tremendous energy and positive outlook. This former Golden Girl is currently appearing as a series regular in TV Land’s new comedy Hot in Cleveland and is a recurring guest star on NBC’s Community. She also debuted a T-shirt line this summer and works tirelessly for animal rights and animal welfare. All this at the ripe ol’ age of 88!

And since I know that putting on the right dress can be oh-so-inspiring, I couldn’t resist today’s VPOD. This vintage beauty can make anyone feel like a Golden Girl—and hopefully help you channel enough of that Golden Girl energy so you can tackle just one more item on that loooong to-do list.

I took a fantastic Chakra Balancing class last night at Liberation Yoga with Constance Hart. Constance is an internationally-recognized, certified color therapist and a visionary in the field of color energy balancing.

According to Constance, each color has its own energetic expression and affects each chakra in a unique way. For instance, your sacral chakra starts below your navel and governs your low belly, hips and lower back. Feeling impatient, stuck in the past or super anxious about your future? An unbalanced sacral chakra could be to blame. But one way to get back in the flow would be to activate this chakra with orange energy.

Something as luscious as today’s VPOD would do the job beautifully with its stunning burnt orange silk and unexpected asymmetric hem.

So many people complain that there aren’t enough hours in a day and use that as an excuse for why they aren’t doing their part to green the planet. But it doesn’t take an hour a day to be green, it can take as little as 30 seconds. That’s right—just 30 seconds!

Greenwala recently shared 10 Ways to Go Green in 30 Seconds or Less that included such simple things as recycling your phone book, using the sleep function on your computer and opting out of mail order catalogs that you no longer read but keep showing up in your mailbox.

And of course, millions of people doing little things each day really can add up to…well, you can do the math but it’s a whole lot of help for good ol’ Mother Nature!

And if this still isn’t enough incentive, why not promise to reward yourself for greening even one small part of your world with an eco-friendly vintage find like today’s VPOD.

If you’re ever not sure what color to wear, you might want to choose them all by wearing…white!

According to the Additive Color Theory, the color white is really the sum of all colors.  That’s why sunlight, a form of white light, can bend under certain atmospheric conditions and produce a rainbow that displays all of the different colors “hidden” inside.

And while I’m pretty sure by now that you’ve got a Little Black Dress in your wardrobe, perhaps it’s time to balance the yin and yang of your closet with the addition of a smashing Little White Dress like today’s VPOD.

Vintage shopping, whether it’s done online or in brick-and-mortar stores, requires a H-U-G-E amount of attention. In many cases, sizes aren’t clearly evident. There is always the possibility of some sort of flaw in an item. And often, there are very limited return policies.

Which means you should proceed with caution.

Check garments over once, twice, even three times if you are able to examine the garment in person.  And always, always, always read an online store’s exchange policy every time you purchase just in case the policy has changed since the last time you were a customer.

Also when shopping online, don’t be fooled by the pictures—make sure you read the descriptions carefully. Today’s VPOD is a fine example.

A common complaint I hear among vintage fashionistas is that the clothes are just too small to fit modern bodies. So just a quick glance at this fab 1940s tweed-print secretary dress might cause a gal who isn’t a size 2 or 4 to scroll right on by. But if you take the time to read the description, you’ll learn that this dress was made for a woman with a 40 inch bust and a 34 inch waist!

It’s proof you can find great vintage pieces in any size with a little time and attention.

And that’s very good news for a vintage fashionista!

If you’re the sort of girl who likes to “take it to the max,” then I suspect that “taking it to the maxi” in today’s VPOD might also be your style.

This vintage 1970s maxi dress by Frank Usher has all the bohemian chic a modern girl could ask for and get this, it’s two separate pieces. Uh-huh. It’s a two-fer!

May is here and that means lots of young American girls are preparing for that high school rite of passage known as Prom. Just today, the New York Post reported on this year’s most popular fashion trend for this big event:

Prom is going porn this year.

The days of dressing like a lady are over — with teens preferring to parade around at their first big dance looking more like strippers than schoolgirls.

The hot trend is slutty chic — with cleavage-revealing frocks, bellybutton-baring gowns and dresses made of barely enough fabric to make a washcloth.

What?!? Does this upset anyone besides me?

The article goes on to report that one of Saks best-selling dresses this season is a little (and I do mean little) leopard number with a bare-midriff that looks like something a belly-dancer would wear. What?!?

As a little girl I might have been known to hum “Someday My Prince Will Come” but now as a big girl, I am much more eager for prints to come. Pucci, Leonard, Bessi. Bring’em on!

But just like a girl has her own unique taste when it comes to princes, we also have our own unique taste when it comes to prints. Some of us don’t like florals. Others think kitschy thematic prints are just plain silly. Colorful swirling geometrics give some gals headaches. You get the picture.

But imagine a closet filled with only solid colors! Boring, right? Prints are one tool to help inject a little life into any wardrobe.

But they need not make you dizzy or knock you off your feet. It’s possible to find prints that are a bit more organic and subdued and today’s VPOD is a perfect example. This 1960s cotton dress is perfect for the office and with a price tag of under $60 is quite affordable for the gal who isn’t yet in a corner office. And I love the way the muted earth shades give the effect of a slate patio.

It’s a different kind of prints charming for a vintage fashionista!
