An eclectic mix of designer and non-designer vintage clothing, accessories and jewelry, these are pieces that have caught my discerning eye for their uniqueness, their contemporary feel or their highly collectible nature.

VPOD: Vintage Mad for Plaid Patrick Kelly Suit

When purchasing vintage clothing, I abide by the theory that you should follow your heart, not your head. You should buy what you love, what makes your heart skip a beat and what gives you that giddy feeling you get when you think you’ve found “the one.” But it is okay to pay a little attention to the voice in your head. Particularly the one that advises you that, though you might not be purchasing this fab little outfit for future investment, it’s still nice to know that it’s from the first collection of the first American designer ever admitted to the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne.

Early pieces from first and last collections of designers are always a good starting point for collections. So the fact that this adorable plaid suit from Patrick Kelly’s first collection in 1988 happens to be a perfect pairing for this season’s leggings and booties is just icing on the cake.

It’s a mad for plaid collectible find for a vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Vintage Gucci Mad for Plaid Handbag

Well, it’s back-to-school time. And I associate back-to-school with…handbag shopping!

When I was a young school girl, I was allowed to pick out a new handbag every school year. And I can remember how hard the choice would be! First, I’d go window shopping, scoping out the latest styles. Then I’d have to narrow my choices because even though I had champagne taste I was working on a juicebox budget!

Of course, in those days, vintage items weren’t yet on my radar (unlike many young tweens and teens today). And while today’s VPOD would have definitely been outside my price range, it is certainly in reach for a modern Gossip Girl or a future-thinking college fashionista who can see its value for the next four years and then some.

Of course, it’s hard to resist a vintage Gucci saddle bag any day of the week, but this special version is even more irresistible because it’s all dolled up with vibrant plaid and promises only good fortune with its horseshoe hardware.

What a school girl dream for a vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Mad for Plaid

If you’ve seen the new D&G ads running in the August fashion magazines, you’re aware that fashionistas will be mad for plaid this fall. But I say, Why wait? Get a jumpstart on this trend with today’s VPOD.

You can stay cool in this 1970s cotton sundress by Mollie Parnis while sporting a red-hot plaid print and a criss-cross halter neckline.

It’s a delightful summer find for a vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Preppy Plaid

I have friends who, after spending twelve years in Catholic or private school uniforms, say they’ll never, EVER wear plaid again. No way, no how. Not a hat or scarf or skirt. Not even that famous Burberry print.

Of course, not all of us feel this aversion. Some of us might look at today’s VPOD (with a $28 price tag, mind you) and our little fashion brains would start spinning. After all, there are dozens of ways to mix-and-match this classic 1980s wool plaid skirt with the sweaters and blouses and blazers in our closet that have been waiting patiently to see the light of day again.

It’s a preppy little plaid for a vintage fashionista!
