If you think that the sticker price on a piece of clothing is the most important consideration when choosing a wardrobe item, I’d like to suggest that you start thinking of your closet more like you do your car. Most drivers are very aware that depreciation zaps a huge portion of their car’s value during the first five years so it just makes sense to choose models that have high resale values.

If you’re going to build a vintage clothing collection or even just buy contemporary clothes and fund your habit by selling then to secondhand shops at the end of every season, knowing which labels have the highest resale values will really come in handy.

Unfortunately, the annual Kelly Blue Book Best Resale Value Awards only recognize vehicles. But if I were to announce a Zuburbia Green Book Best Vintage Resale Value Award, I would definitely have Ossie Clark on the list.

A perennial favorite of both collectors and plain ol’ women who love to wear his clothes, it seems Ossie’s pieces will always be in demand and thus command good prices.

Today’s VPOD is a lovely example of a 1970s Ossie Clark for Radley blouse in a Celia Birtwell print with beautiful sleeves and a feminine bow. Wear it, love it, pass it on.

You may love silk but did you know that according to a University of Illinois report quoted at PETA’s Media Center, about 3,000 silkworms die to make every pound of silk?

Now, I’m a gal who refrains from harming animals whenever possible. I’m one of those people who has a cup under her sink labeled “Bugs” for capturing and releasing to the great outdoors the myriad insects and spiders who dare to share my home. And while I’m still willing to wear vintage silk, I won’t make any new silk purchases. No way, no how.

But if you want to refrain from wearing silk entirely, you can always choose a fabulous polyester item like today’s VPOD. This vintage 1970s blouse has the most fantastic combination of neutral tan, grey and black along with a feminine side bow.

All those sheer outfits strutting down the spring runways–and there were lots of them!–looked amazing, sure. But they can be a tricky look to pull off if you’re a modern woman who spends her day strutting into offices, schools, and grocery stores.

It is possible, however, to embrace these light, flowing, sexy fabrics at any age and in any part of the country. Today’s VPOD, for example, feature a fabulous vintage blouse from the 1980s that has plenty of sex appeal when styled with a strapless bra. But it’s easy to tame this look and make it behave more appropriately by simply pairing it with a tank, camisole or tube top instead. Or throw it on over a strapless dress. I visit lots and lots and LOTS of web-based vintage clothing sites every week. And many sites don’t show prices for their items on their shopping category pages. In order to find out a price, you have to click on the picture to visit the individual item’s detail page. Now I understand that this is most likely a limitation of the software that’s running the website, but as far as shopping experiences go, if you’re in a hurry and shopping on a budget, this can be both frustrating and time-consuming. Of course, when you have time and you’re just browsing, it’s like a little guessing game. I like to click on an item I like and then see if its price tag makes me jump with glee or shocks me into a quick click on the back button of my browser.

I’m happy to say that today’s VPOD made me jump for glee and very nearly had me jumping for my credit card. (Of course, if I’d done that, I’d have had to start my search for today’s VPOD all over again!) So I’m gonna give some lucky gal a few hours to pounce on this one herself. This vintage 1940s rayon crepe blouse in classic navy oozes style with its fab shoulders, nipped waist and soutache trim. And believe me, the price is right!

It’s a winning find for a vintage fashionista!

Janice Wainwright studied beside Ossie Clark and Celia Birtwell at the Royal College of Art in London and became the only designer other than Ossie Clark himself who was allowed to use Celia Birtwell’s textiles in the 1960s. Her clothes are beautiful, youthful and made from the very best fabrics. I snagged a real steal on a Janice Wainwright dress at the Santa Monica Vintage Expo recently and I’m finding today’s VPOD hard to resist, too.

This vintage 1970s blouse by Janice Wainwright is simply divine! The color, the sleeves, all those buttons, and, of course, the embroidery—it’s exactly the sort of luxe boho style that lets you be comfortable while looking sensational.

Every home cook has a few go-to recipes. You know, those recipes that come out perfectly every time,  that never fail, and that  you turn to in a pinch when you make plans with dinner guests at the last minute.

Well, for those days when you just don’t have the time or energy to pull together a smashing outfit from your separates, a fashionista should have a few go-to fashion recipes as well. And one tried and true fashion recipe is  “a white blouse and ______.”

Fill in the blank however you like—very little thought is required. A white blouse and jeans. A white blouse and pencil skirt. A white blouse and khakis.

And just like you have different jeans for different occasions, having a handful of white blouses in different styles can have a huge fashion payoff, too.
