The Commerce Department released preliminary GDP figures today for the fourth quarter 2008 and–gulp!–it was the greatest decline in more than 26 years. Today’s dress is just a little reminder that Spring is right around the corner. Bill Blass believed in eliminating the superfluous from clothes and concentrating on the essentials. And that kind of thinking is what led to today’s VPOD.

Fortuny was the King of Pleats and most costume museums have one of his pleated gowns in their collection. According to one source, his pleats were created by evaporation when wet and folded silk was laid on heated tubes. Not sure what method was used to get the amazing pleats in today’s VPOD, but Bill Blass certainly appears to be channeling the master here!
