While everyone’s yapping about who wore what at yesterday’s Academy Awards, I’d like to talk about more serious matters. In just a few weeks, we’ll be heading into the Spring rainy season and while fashionistas will start thinking about how to fashionably dodge the raindrops and start taking out raincoats, umbrellas and galoshes, millions of people in Haiti will face a second humanitarian disaster from flooding and disease if adequate shelter and sanitation issues aren’t addressed.

Yep, that’s a downer to think about on a Monday morning, but considering that millions of people just watched beloved actresses gushing over couture gowns and sporting borrowed jewelry valued in the millions of dollars, I think it’s now time to return from Dreamland and face Reality. Cinderella went to the ball, the clock struck midnight and now, in the light of morning, all the world’s problems remain.

But we can make a difference. For example, just this past weekend conservationists in Palos Verdes successfully released 80 rare butterflies back into the wild that they had bred in captivity in an effort to save the species from extinction.

And sure, today’s VPOD won’t solve any of the world’s problems, but it will bring a little sunshine into your world and hopefully its cheerful butterfly print will serve as a reminder that the choices you make (yes, little ol’ you!) do have an impact on the world just as a butterfly flapping its wings in Texas can have an effect on the weather in Japan!

It’s a thought-provoking find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Vintage Secret.
