VPOD: Spider Woman – Vintage 1970s Spider Necklace

What if that budding fashionista Little Miss Muffet wasn’t arachnophobic?

Little Miss Muffet sat on a her tuffet
chanting to start her day.
Along came a spider
who sat down beside her.
Miss Muffet asked her to stay.

Sure they’re scary and hairy and have those googley eyes, but spiders have their good points, too. For instance, scientists are investigating the use of spider venom as an eco-friendly insecticide. Then there’s the huge potential for spider silk, which is as tough and strong as Kevlar, to be used in protective clothing. Plus spiders are good luck symbols for weavers and spinners and others in the fabric and garment industries.

But if you still can’t face the living, breathing version of these creepy crawlers, perhaps you can live with today’s more sparkly kind. This handcrafted gold spider pendant necklace from the mid-1970s is incredibly unique–the turquoise and ruby spider actually spins on the web.

It’s a one-of-a-kind find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Beladora 2.
