The New York Post reported in a 1978 interview with Rosita Missoni that her philosophy since she went into business had been “that a piece of clothing should be like a work of art.” She encouraged women not to buy clothes for special occasions or just because they were in fashion, but because they truly enjoyed a piece of clothing and felt like they could wear it forever.
This is sound advice for fashionistas of any age and it’s hard not to feel this way about Missoni’s knitwear pieces. Each item has a distinct personality, like today’s VPOD.
This 1980s oversize plaid cardigan drapes beautifully and is bursting with Spring’s loveliest hues. It’s preppy with a twist–and it’s under $100.
That makes it a fabulously frugal find for a vintage fashionista.
Available at Light Years Vintage.
